When you child reaches the age where they are after you to buy them a pet why not start out with a Hamster? I think almost all the kids in my neighborhood had a Hamster before we graduated up to a cat or dog as a pet and I remember them as funny little animals. The great thing about starting your child out with a Hamster is the animal is low maintenance, does not take up a lot of space, and teaches your child responsibility for caring for the Hamster. He or she will learn to feed and water their little Hamster, keep the cage clean ,and also find much fun and laughs at the antics a Hamster does. We all like to watch them run on the wheel or climb through one of many mazes you can add to their cage. I wish I could remember the name of my first Hamster but I owned several over a couple year period so I only remember laughing at the funny things the Hamster would do. A Hamster not only provides fun for you and your child but they also teach responsibility.
